friday 11/12/09

Today starting off with ewan's class we were still working on the models and the backgrounds.
i helped make some flags out of plasticine for our mascot models then started fixing the start and finishing line. it wasnt stable enough soo i got some wires and twisted them together to make a good structure to stand up then i put back on the orange plastacine.

Also i helped make a new crowd background by putting coloured circle dots on a big sheet of paper, we couldnt use the last background because of copyright and we couldnt contact the person to ask for permission to use the background image.

i also had to help making grass by cutting up thin sheets of different colour of green paper for the running track that the mascots will be running on.

In brian's class i had to catch up on my planning sheet because i was off, i filled out the two sheets then moved onto my sketch book colouring and sketching out the model mascots i made also writing in information about how to make it and what are the requirements.

I didnt have enough time to blog this at college or get pictures of what i was doing :(

Our topic for the new project is "Show Racism the Red Card",over the the next few week we will be exploring various model making techniques suitable for 3D animation:
  1. Mod roc
  2. Wire
  3. Plasticine
  4. Backdrops/props

animation techniques

i was off allot recently so i have to catch up with my college blogger account and this is
about animation techniques

just a couple words about animation techniques.

stop motion or model animation :also known as stop-action or frame-by-frame) isan-animation technique to make a  manipulated object appear to move by itself. The object is moved in tiny increments between individually photographed frames creating the illusion of movement when the set of frames is played as a continuous patterns. Clay figures are often used in stop motion for their ease of repositioning. Stop motion animation using clay is described as clay animation or clay-mation. For example Wallace and Gromit -clay animation,Robot Chicken-stop motion animation.
Drawn animation: pop aye family guy and other things like futureama are drawn animations then they are coloured in
rotoscoping:One original use of  rotoscoping was in the star warz movie, it was used to make/create the glowing lightsaber effect, by creating a matte based on sticks held by the actors. To achieve this, editors traced a line over each frame with the prop, then enlarged each line and added the glow.Cut-out animation: such as southpark using cutouts and animating them together..

Computer animation or computer generated imagery: is the art of creating moving images with the use of computersan image is displayed on the computer screenand repeatedly replaced by a new image that is similar to the previous image, but advanced slightly in the time domain usually at a rate of 24 or 30 frames/second
this technique is identical to how the illusion of movement is achieved withtelevision and motion pictures  for example shrek and toy story.

A brief history of animation from 1671 to the present day

The magic lantern 1671

Its an oil lamp with a lens and has images painted on the glass. you light up the oil lamp and project the images on a suitable screen

A thaumatrope 1824

is a disk or card with a picture on each side with 2 pieces of string attached to it. if you twirle the strings with your fingers the pictures combine together giving you an illusion

The praxinoscope 1877
This was an animation invented by charles-Émile Reynaud.
It has a strip of pictures around the inner surface of a spinning cylinder

A flip book 1868
A flip book is a series of pictures from one page to the other.
when the pages are turned or flicked rapidly the pictures form an animation.

Stop motion
Stop motion is made with frame by frame its an animation technique which makes objects apear or move. You can do it picture by picture and make each one move slightly in a way which will turn into animation.

Photoshop & Video sharing sites

Photoshop

Today in class we had to go on photoshop and learn the basics of the program, I already knew the basics so i made a banner on photoshop with a gradient background of 4 colors and duplicates of adam sandler with beveled edges and in the middle had text with different colors and size 72.
To made the duplicates of adam sandler is used the magic wand tool to cut out all over the white background on the picture just like a green-screen effect and added 3 of them together.

Video sharing sites

Youtube: Youtube is the most popular video sharing sites in the world, you can add friends and family on you-tube also share your videos out to them. Their are many things you can do such as favorite videos you like, rate them 1-5, share them to other sites such as face-book Bebo my-space blogger and plenty more.

On you-tube you have more own channel which you can design and put a background also upload your own picture on the avatar. you have a subscribe button on you-tube say if you likes someone's videos you can click subscribe and whenever they upload a new video you will notice their new video in the subscription box and also you have an option to get emails if someone makes a new video.

Mega video

Mega video is like youtube but different in some ways, you can upload longer videos like 1-3 hours such as movies. you can also have your own profile but it isnt as good as youtube's profiles and you can comment and favorite videos also.

You can make money also by uploading a video which gets loads of views and the more you get the more money you will get. you can upgrade your account from being a non member, non member accounts can only watch 70 minutes of videos per 55 minutes and when you upgrade you can watch allot more.
